Bitter Pill to Swallow
China-made aphrodisiac tablets with names like “Powerful Viagra King” and “Magic Arousal Powder” were among scores of goods seized from Chinese peddlers who entered the state under the guise of tourists.
Enforcement officers from Kota Kinabalu City Hall moved in on groups of peddlers selling fake aphrodisiac tablets and powders, cosmetic facemasks to herbal aphrodisiac medicines during early morning raids at the popular Lido market and Foh Sang here.
The move follows reports that the Chinese peddlers were taking advantage of the direct flights from various cities in China to the state capital under guise of tourist to peddle their goods believed to be fakes and dangerous for consumption. City Hall enforcement chief Ernest Mojikon said the male aphrodisiac tablets and powder seized from the peddlers would be sent to the pharmaceutical unit of the state Health Department to determine their actual content. Included in their take were a wide assortment of aphrodisiacs for women. “People should not take these tablets and powders as it poses a serious and adverse health risk,” he said, adding that the swoop was not only from peddlers from China but other countries also.

The “Powerful Viagra King” tablets is claimed to be good for men while the “Magical Arousal Powder” is meant only for women with the manufacturer clearly stating a disclaimer that they were not responsible after the goods were sold. Ernest said that most of the illegal vendors fled leaving their goods on the walkways when they saw his team.
