Blood Pressure Medication
There are quite a few types of blood pressure medications on the market today.
Some times patients will take one or more blood pressure medication according to their own physician. The run of the different type of blood pressure medication include diuretics, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin antagonists, nervous system inhibitors, vasodilators, alpha-blockers and alpha-beta-blockers. Each and every blood pressure medication is used to do to a different function. Diuretic blood pressure medication is known as a “water pill”. They work on the body to flush out excess water and sodium from your body while Ace inhibitor medication stops or aids in the stopping of the formation of angiotensin II. This is a hormone that makes blood vessels become narrow restricting blood flow. With this blood pressure medication, the blood vessels will relax and the blood pressure can return to normal or at least go down. Beta-blockers blood pressure medication works to reduce nerve impulses to the blood vessels and heart. The way this blood pressure medication works is that it causes the heart to beat slower, which makes the heart work with less force, which will causes lower blood pressure, and the heart to not work so hard. Calcium Channel Blockers blood pressure medication aid in keeping calcium from getting into the heart muscles and blood vessels. This blood pressure medication works by allowing the blood vessels to relax and the blood pressure will go down. An angiotensin antagonist is a blood pressure medication that protects blood vessels from angiotensin II. This blood pressure medication makes the blood vessels become wider which will allow the blood pressure to go down. Nervous system inhibitors blood pressure medication works by controlling the nerve impulses, which will relax the blood vessels. As the other blood pressure medications, this causes the blood vessels to widen which can reduce the high blood pressure, a major heart disease cause. Vasodilators blood pressure medication opens the blood vessels by causing the muscles in the blood vessels walls to relax. This will cause the blood pressure to go down. Alpha-blockers blood pressure medication reduces the amount of nerve impulses to the blood vessels. This will allow the blood to flow through easier, which will bring down blood pressure. Alpha-beta-blockers blood pressure medication is close to the same and the alpha-blockers blood pressure medication. It also reduces the amount of nerve impulses to the blood vessels but it also slows down the heartbeat. This means that less blood will pump through the blood vessels by the heart, which will cause the blood pressure to lower. If you have any concerns about your blood pressure medication or or heart disease and are wondering why you need to take more than one you can talk with your physician. He will be able to explain to you all the risks involved with each blood pressure medication and why he believes the one he has chosen will work best for you.
