Coronary Heart Disease

Coronary heart disease is the most widespread form of heart disease and the leading cause of death in America.

It is estimated that around 12.6 million American has Coronary Hear Disease.

Coronary Heart Disease leads to a heart attack in many individuals and most of the heart attacks are fatal.

The good news however is that Coronary Heart Disease can be controlled and even prevented.

Heart Disease Symptoms

Symptoms of Coronary Heart Disease are usually not noticed in many people until its too late and a heart attack has taken place. Some people however notice a feeling of discomfort in their chest or chest pain. Angina is a major Coronary Heart Disease symptom that is different for both men and women. In men, this symptom is normally felt behind the breastbone and moves up the shoulder into the upper left arm and left side of the neck. Many men complain that they felt the angina in the left shoulder, elbows, back, and jaw. This Coronary Heart Disease symptom is usually brought on by exercise and can last anywhere from two to five minutes. The pain or discomfort will disappear after a short rest period and there was no noticeably change in breathing.

Symptoms in Females

Women on the other hand when it comes to angina and Coronary Heart Disease symptoms they will normally experience shortness of breath or indigestion. This feeling can last for several minutes and can also be felt behind the breastbone. Exercise is not usually associated with angina in women and rest does not give relief. In some women, this symptom may only occur while resting.

Risk Factors

There are risk factors of Coronary Heart Disease, which include age, and family history of early Coronary Heart Disease. These risk factors cannot be altered. Coronary Heart Disease is more often seen in men 45 years of age and older and women 55 years of age and older. A family history of Coronary Heart Disease where a close relative such as father or brother had the disease before age 55 for men and for women a mother or sister before age 65 is also a risk factor of Coronary Heart Disease that cannot be changed.

There are risk factors of Coronary Heart Disease that you can change such as cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, being overweight or obese, high cholesterol levels in the blood, not exercising and diabetes. If you have any of these problems and a family history of Coronary Heart Disease, you should talk with your physician about the ways in which you can change your lifestyle and get on the path to good health. All of these factors increase your chances of Coronary Heart Disease.
