No matter where you look today, either in the newspapers or on television you will either read the words Vioxx and Heart Disease or hear the news broadcaster say the words Vioxx and Heart Disease. Vioxx and Heart Disease go hand in hand. This medication that was given to patients as an anti-inflammatory drug was directly linked to Heart Disease. Vioxx was taken off the shelves because of research that was done that showed that the risk of developing heart disease while taking Vioxx was twice as likely.
Vioxx and Heart Disease research included the medical information from 300,000 people over a two and half year period while taking Vioxx. This information was used to compare with patients that were not taking Vioxx. Vioxx and Heart Disease was higher in the group of Vioxx patients that were taking a 50 mg dosage, the increased risk was with higher doses.
