Insomnia Hypnosis

The idea of having insomnia treated by hypnosis might sound very antagonizing for a chronic sufferer of insomnia. This is because of the myths related to hypnosis, which might lead him into thinking that hypnosis can be a threat to his weary existence.

In order to come to a deduction that insomnia can be conquered by hypnosis we must first learn some more about insomnia.

Insomnia Defined

Insomnia in its literal sense means sufferance caused by poor sleep and sleeping patterns. Poor sleep or the lack of it impairs our ability to react creatively and appropriately on any given situation. This is because insomnia can channel a human mind to a very negative stream. Sleep can only be induced by relaxation, but if a person is perpetually suffering from depression then this will be a hindrance to his natural process of sleep, therefore a prime cause of insomnia.

Hypnosis is said to be an excellent way of treating insomnia. Unlike what we usually conjecture on hearing the word ‘hypnosis’- it is not based on dangling a pocket clock in front of the patient’s eyes in order to put him in a trance. Nor have a majority of bank robberies been carried out by a person controlled by hypnosis. You will not end up like poor Hal in Shallow Hal either – finding the ugliest of women highly attractive. It is not true that a person with a strong mind and a strong willpower cannot be hypnotized. On the contrary what is required for carrying out hypnotherapy is a strong mind and a strong willpower.

What Hypnosis Does

Hypnotherapy is a therapy carried out while a person is under hypnosis. It is a process by which the conscious mind is suppressed and the sub-conscious mind is made to gain dominance over it. It is during this heightened state of awareness during which the sub-conscious mind becomes open enough to welcome positive suggestions. Therefore hypnosis is neither a deep sleep nor a device to put a person under trance.

I am not here to propagate or promote hypnosis but what I am simply trying to drum into your heads is that we could try and look at the brighter side of hypnosis in respect to insomnia. A variety of sleeping pills available in the markets today may help us to deal with insomnia in the short-term but a prolonged use of these tablets can also nullify their effects and with the advent of time greater doses of these medicines will have to be consumed by the patients in order to achieve sleep.

In contrary to this insomnia hypnosis with its ability to put a person into a relaxation mode not only succeeds in helping him to get into a regular sleeping pattern but it is also reported to have no side-effects. According to me this is a sphere where hypnosis will grab the maximum points since the detrimental effects of the modern medicines have already been stated above.

Equipped with this information related to insomnia hypnosis at least I am no more intimidated by the thought of visiting a hypnotherapist with my problem of sleep disorder.

This is because one thing is for sure that even if the hypnotherapist is unable to cure me, he will not hypnotize me to be his lapdog who will always be at his beck and call!
