Mesothelioma Symptoms
Cancer is one of the most insidious diseases to ever strike humanity. Almost everyone knows someone, or knows someone who knows someone who has suffered or died from this disease. It often kills painfully and is one of the leading causes of death in North America. Mesothelioma is just another form of cancer.
Mesothelium is a membrane which protects our organs. It is made up of cells and it excretes a lubricating fluid that allows these organs to move and slide against structures in our bodies without causing harm.
Most people who suffer from mesothelioma have come into contact with asbestos in the past. Normally, people who were exposed to asbestos in the past tend to develop mesothelioma thirty to forty five years later. This is the main reason why this disease is so scary, you just never know when it will creep up on you. Often, once you have mesothelioma, the symptoms don’t show themselves until thirty to fifty years after you were exposed to asbestos. In the early development of the disease there are often no symptoms at all making mesothelioma very hard to detect and treat which is often why mesothelioma kills so many. No one knows they have it until it’s too late. However, mesothelioma symptoms do show in the later stages of the disease, and there are often symptoms that will give you a clue to what you are suffering from. One of these mesothelioma symptoms is a cough that won’t go away. No matter how much cough syrup you guzzle or how long you give your body to heal, a cough from mesothelioma won’t go away. You will also suffer from a fever and fatigue. These mesothelioma symptoms may lead you to believe that you are suffering from a cold or viral infection, but just like the cough, these symptoms will persist and will not be curable with ordinary treatments. Another of the mesothelioma symptoms is unexplained weight loss. Despite the fact that you didn’t change your diet in any way, you will still lose weight for no apparent reason. You may also experience a shortness of breath, dyspnea, pleuritic pain, chest pain and an obstruction of the bowels. All of these mesothelioma symptoms are very unpleasant and hard to miss. If you experience any of these mesothelioma symptoms it is very important that you get yourself down to the doctors. Blood clotting abnormalities and anaemia are other symptoms associated with mesothelioma. Any and all of these symptoms are very good indicators that you have mesothelioma. You should see a doctor right away, but if you have ever been exposed to asbestos it is even more important to get checked out. You may have to get blood tests, x-rays, CT scans and an MRI. Mesothelioma will kill you if not treated in time. Don’t ignore the mesothelioma symptoms or put off your visit to the doctors. Mesothelioma can be treated if caught in time. The mesothelioma symptoms are there for people who are willing to admit they have a problem. Don’t be a fool and ignore them.
