Mesothelioma Types Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that plagues people who have been exposed to asbestos. Most of the time, the cancer doesn’t develop until years after you were exposed. It is a deadly disease, and is hard to diagnose. Some people don’t even realise they have mesothelioma until it’s too late.
There are four types of mesothelioma: malignant mesothelioma, recurring mesothelioma, advanced mesothelioma and localized malignant mesothelioma. Each type of mesothelioma work about the same way, the difference is how the mesothelioma manifests itself. All types of mesothelioma attack the cell walls that protect your vital organs. The most common place for people to develop mesothelioma is in the chest or abdomen.
Malignant mesothelioma attacks the lining that protects your chest. This type of mesothelioma is the most common type, and it will spread destroying the sac, and killing the patient. Different treatments are available to treat this type of mesothelioma, and they are discussed in another article on the “Treatments of Mesothelioma.”
Recurring mesothelioma attacks after you think you have gotten rid of malignant mesothelioma. Basically, like the name suggests, you might have the mesothelioma removed by surgery or other means, and then it recurs. It works the same way as traditional cancer. Some people get the lump removed, think they have the disease beaten, and a few years later it comes back and they have to start all over again. If you have malignant mesothelioma, and manage to beat it, it is important that you monitor your body carefully in the future for any symptoms of the disease. This type of mesothelioma is heart breaking to the patient, but it is important that you keep fighting. You beat it once, you can beat it again.
Advanced mesothelioma is the type of mesothelioma that every patient and doctor dreads to see. This type of mesothelioma means that you had malignant mesothelioma, and now it is in its advanced stages. This means that it will be harder to fight the disease, and much harder on the patient. Advanced mesothelioma might also mean that the cancer has spread and effected different areas of the body.
The last type of mesothelioma is localized malignant mesothelioma. This type of mesothelioma is probably the best type to have (if any can be classified as “best”) because it means that the cancer is localized in one spot. This means that it is easier for doctors to isolate the problem area and either surgically remove it, or use the other treatment options. Usually, the doctors opt to surgically remove this type of mesothelioma. No matter how you look at it, all types of mesothelioma are bad news. It may be a rare disease, but it can be deadly. There are few doctors who specialize in this disease because of the fact that it is so rare and can take many years before any symptoms are noticed. The good news is that it can be treated and beaten. It’s important to remember that when faced with any type of mesothelioma. You can beat it.
