Products to Stop Snoring We have discussed some of the products that can be used to stop snoring in previous articles, but I think it is important to take a harder look at some of these so called stop snoring products.
Which ones work, and which are fakes? Is there clinical proof to back up some of these products, or is their effectiveness a myth built on hearsay or the manufacturers to sell you their product like dumb sheep? Here is a list of some of the products used to treat snoring and their up sides and down.
Chin up Strips/Nasal Strips: Chin up strips are said to be an effective product to stop snoring, and it seems to be true. Dr. Barbara Phillips did a sleep study in 1997/98 that backed up this claim. She said "We conclude that the Chin-Up Strip combined with Breathe Right nasal strip is an effective alternative treatment for the primary snorer, as well as for mild OSA patients who are not surgical candidates or cannot tolerate CPAP." Stop Snoring Throat Spray: Stop snoring throat spray doesn’t always work, but some clinical studies have shown that it can reduce snoring, or in some cases completely get rid of it. One study showed that 27 out of 30 subjects either completely stopped snoring or had their snoring significantly reduced when using throat spray. Non-Invasive Over the Counter Remedies: This title includes the above examples and many more. Anything you buy from a drug store that doesn’t require a prescription pretty much falls into this products to stop snoring category. While some of the products may work, the buyer should beware. Many people buy these “remedies” because they don’t want to have surgery, or make a life style change. Some studies show that most-in fact about 80%-of the over the counter products to stop snoring don’t work, but they try to wow you with fancy sounding vitamin and nutrient content. Some have unpleasant side effects such as stomach cramps, diarrhoea and dizziness. It is a good idea to talk to your pharmacist about these products before you buy them. After all, who wants to sit on the john for three hours to stop snoring? I sure the hell wouldn’t. It’s also a good idea to talk to your doctor as well before taking any of these stop snoring products. The best remedy available is to look after your body. Make sure you watch your weight and what you eat. Watch your stress level. Make sure you don’t drink a keg of beer before bed, or take any drugs that aren’t prescribed by your doctor first. Get the appropriate amount of sleep, and try to sleep on your side or stomach instead of your back. All of these things have been proven to work, they are all safe and they’re all good for you anyways. You won’t be clutching your stomach over the great white god because you ate some veggies instead of the chips you really wanted!
