Who's Your Daddy?
Toby Keith's popular song "Who's your Daddy" was a #1 hit on the country billboard charts not too long ago.
While the song dealt with the sexual leanings of a man towards an attractive younger woman down on her luck, that's not the point of this article. Rather, the point is that for millions of people around the world, knowing who their father is isn't a statement of fact. In fact, it's a question mark.
With the development of affordable DNA Testing, determining a babies father is as simple as obtaining a oral swab. Made popular by Maury Povich who casually trots out women having multiple children by multiple partners...DNA Testing can prove beyond any doubt exactly if a genetic match exists. Your Momma Was A Test TubeWith the surge in sperm donation clinics, as well as college age men willing to donate sperm samples for extra cash, perhaps we'll see at somepoint soon men in their 40's who donated sperm while in college, suddenly faced with a court order and a Q-tip in their face. Regardless of the whims and dictates of society, in order for sperm donation to benefit childless couples, secrecy of the donor must be maintained. Sadly...the protection once afforded the sperm donor is slowly being eroded away with time...like Maury's television ratings. Sperm donation once was a rather "secret" activity with couples utilizing donated sperm unwilling to reveal that fact. Up until roughly 1970, couples utilizing donated sperm actually kept it a secret that only they and their physician knew. Fast-forward into the 2000's and sperm donation pregnancies are as common as websites. The donation of sperm, as well as eggs has increased tremendously due to the Internet. With sites availing themselves of donor profiles and past medical histories, couples no longer have to play Russian Roulete with a pipette. Picking a child's father is now a simple procedure for barren couples. Being somebody's daddy... is a complete different issue.
